Adult Faith Formation Ministry: Week of November 7
This weekend's readings start with 1 Kings and the Prophet Elijah. God has sent him to the town of Zarephath to see a widow. "Arise, go to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow there to feed you" (1 Kings 17:9). Elijah has been traveling from town to town, not resting or feeling at home. He enters into Zarephath as God has instructed, and as he enters, the widow appears, trying to find water for her and her son. He asks her for food, and she tells him she has enough for one more meal, and then she and her son will die from thirst and hunger, but as God told Elijah, the widow prepares food for Elijah. Elijah enjoys the simple meal and tells the widow she will never go hungry again...
